About Me
My name is Garrett Albright, and I am a 23-year-old guy currently living in Nagoya, Japan, where I make a decent living teaching the natives to mimic my strange utterance. (My obsession with
FLCL had little decision with my decision to move to Japan, as I had decided I wanted to do this long before I had ever heard of
FLCL.) After "growing out" of cartoons, I rediscovered animation as a hobby around 1998. Since 1999, I have led various online discussion forums about animation, including
Animation Republic. I've also worked at the
Toon Zone online news site in 2002 and at
Animation Insider in 2003, though I am no longer affiliated with either site. I even published my own animation print 'zine in 2002. It lasted one issue. I also am the creator of
The Samurai Site, which was at one time the net's premiere
Samurai Jack community, though it has recently fizzled out. When I'm not watching cartoons or making web sites, you'll probably catch me reading, cooking (and eating!), teaching myself computer programming, playing video games, or tinkering with foreign languages.
Kudos
The following products and technologies were used in the construction of this site. Everything linked to below is totally cool, so look into it. Freeware and open source programmers rule! This site was constructed on a
Macintosh computer (my current machine is a 12-inch PowerBook G4). This site uses
CSS for layout and
PHP for dynamic goodness.
SubEthaEdit is a sweet text editor. Graphics were tweaked with
The Gimp (installed via
Fink).
Graphic Converter (not freeware) was also handy for working with graphics.
FreeSnap made screen grabs a, well, snap.
Fugu is a funny name for a nice SFTP client.
SiteCopy is a webmaster's dream for keeping remote web sites in sync when working locally. Drake Dwornik made
Mailazuma. The news system is powered by
WordPress.
