A few people responded to my call to contact me about the third FLCL soundtrack. Thanks to them, as well as other info gleaned off the web, I can now give you a fuller story about it.
I initially said that it appears that the soundtrack has no new songs. While it is true that the third disc has no songs that didn’t appear on the first two discs, the songs on the third disc features “full-length” versions of some of the songs that were abridged and/or returns the lyrics track to songs that were without lyrics on the first two discs. (You mean some of those nifty instrumentals originally had lyrics?! Woah.) Also, it appears that this disc was released quite possibly on the same exact day as its Japanese counterpart, which would explain why I hadn’t heard of it being released in Japan prior. (Here’s Amazon Japan’s page for the disc.)
Hmm, once I get paid again, perhaps I’ll peruse local record stores and try to find it for myself – though, pillows or no, paying ¥2000 (about US$18) for a CD will be a bitter pill for my skinflint self to swallow…
Hopefully I can get this info up on the relevant pages on the site as the weekend approaches.
Greets, all. Well, after months of waiting and runaround, I finally got internet access in my apartment today. Skippy! I’m sorry to those of you who sent me email and didn’t get a reply…
Anyway, there’s been a couple of developments in the FLCL world. Most importantly, I’ve received two emails regarding a new “version” of FLCL recently released that crams all six episodes of FLCL on one disc, has subtitles in various languages, and so on, and sells for about twelve US dollars. Please be aware that this is a pirated product; that none of the staff at Production I.G (or Synch-Point) will receive pay for their work on the series. So if you buy this instead of the legitimate discs, yes, you’ll get the entire FLCL series at a fraction of the cost, but you’ll definitely lose karma points, and you’ll slightly reduce the incentive for the folks at Production I.G to continue making great shows like FLCL. Please do the right thing and avoid this release like the plague.
Second, last month, Geneon released a third soundtrack CD. I’m still trying to find out more about it… Does anyone out there have it? It seems to only have songs that were already featured on the first two discs; is this the case? Please fill me in, and I’ll pass the info along.
Once again contactable, this is Garrett Albright, signing off from the other side of the globe.
According to a post on Adult Swim’s forums (registration required to view, so I won’t link to it directly), FLCL will be back on the tube starting the 28th of May at 1:00 AM. Now this was just a forum post, and, while it was apparently made by Adult Swim staff, there’s no guarantee as of yet, but if you still haven’t seen FLCL, it looks like you’re going to get one more chance in the near future. Thanks to Daikun and Ytoabn for bringing this to your attention on the forum.
On a personal note, I haven’t been able to check my main email account in the last five weeks due to reasons I won’t blather on about here, so if you’re trying to get in touch with me, please try sending an email to spearbrave at gmail dawt com instead of using the mail form on the “About/Contact Me” page. Thanks.
Another goodie to celebrate OAF’s return… Haven’t seen FLCL before? Still not sure if it’s as awesome as it really is? I’ve made a “fan teaser” of the first three and a half minutes (well, three minutes and thirty-six seconds, approximately) of the first episode… I guarantee that, after you check it out, you’ll want to see more.
I’ve put this clip, plus the old clip of the episode 6 ending that was cut from Adult Swim’s airing of FLCL and a link to where Adult Swim’s FLCL commercials can be downloaded, on the brand new Media page. Hopefully I can get more tasty morsels on there as time passes. Enjoy, and thanks for checking out OAF!
I could have little better news for the resurrection of OAF than that of a US tour by the band whose rockin’ licks set the mood for FLCL; the pillows. That’s right, later this month you’ll be able to catch them at Austin (Texas), New York, Seattle and San Francisco, along with an all-girl band called Noodles. Head on over to the official tour web site for a schedule and more information. However, if you can’t catch them at any of those shows, they’ll be back stateside in May to play at the Anime Central Japanese animation convention in Rosemont, Illinois (near Chicago). Check out ACen’s guests page for more info on that.
Also, in case you didn’t see it while OAF was down, Gainax Pages has a page up featuring more information about and artwork by Hajime Ueda, the creator of the FLCL comic. Check out more of her stylistic artwork on their FLCL Manga page.
Greets, all! Yep, OAF is finally back up on its feet. Unfortunately, all of the old news posts are gone, but the good stuff is still here, and now that I’ve finally stopped being lazy and got things up and running again, I hope to get some more content added soon too. Thanks for checking out OAF!
